Electric And Gas Pocket Bikes

A pocket bike is basically a smaller version of a dirt bike or motorcycle. They are often designed for younger riders, though adults sometimes ride them, usually for comic effect. The pocket rockets, as they are sometimes called, are also less powerful than traditional dirt bikes.

Pocket bikes come with one of two main types of engines: either electric or gasoline powered. The electric engines usually last around a half hour per charge. The battery usually takes around 12 hours to reach a full charge. They utilize a two-stroke engine up to 50cc and 18 horsepower. The max speed is usually restricted at 15 MPH, but some pocket rockets can reach speeds of up to 55 MPH. The bike is usually about three feet long and a foot and a half tall. The minimum recommended age for a mini bike rider varies depending on the model, but it is usually around 13.

If you are looking to purchase one of these mini bikes a good place to start looking is your local sporting goods store. Local All Terrain Vehicle dealerships can also carry mini bikes. Major department stores like KMART and Wal-Mart will sometimes stock them, especially during the holiday season when they are in higher demand. If you are willing to purchase online then you can really find some cheap pocket bikes for sale at places like Craigslist, Ebay and Amazon.

It is important to realize, however, that in most states mini bikes are not street legal. This means that they can not be legally driven on any public roads. This should not be discouraging, though, because they can still be driven on private property. Whether it be a back yard, driveway, private road, or dirt bike park, there are plenty of great places to ride a pocket bike.

No matter the laws, you should always practice safe riding habits when using a mini bike. This includes wearing a full-face helmet (similar to what is used for quad riding), knee guards, shin guards, and elbow guards. Protective gloves are also recommended. A long sleeve shirt and long pants will also protect the rider from minor scrapes. Children should only be permitted to ride pocket rockets under adult supervision.
